JW Young decided to build a 9-hole golf course for the guests of his Hollywood Beach Hotel and the golf course opened in late 1922 which was designed by Wallie Nelson and Charles Olsen. A second 9-holes designed by Lee Nelson and Chic Nelson opened in early 1923.

In late 1923, JW Young brought in his friend, Ralph Young to revamp the course since the bunkers were built backwards and Ralph Young followed the design work of Willie Park.

With a clubhouse built, the official inauguration of the Hollywood Golf and Country Club occurred on January 19, 1924.

Here is a picture (FloridaMemory.com - Photographer: Romer) from 1935 showing the clubhouse which was located in the southwest corner of the property.

In 1925, Herbert Charles Tippet rebuilt the Hollywood Golf and Country Club.

Taken into public ownership by the City of Hollywood in 1929, the Hollywood Beach Hotel Golf Course was re-built by Donald Ross.

From 1942 to 1945, the Hollywood Country Club was taken over by the navy.

In 1955, the Hollywood Beach Hotel and Golf Club was redesigned by Charles Mahannah.

In 2004, Kipp Schulties was hired to redesign the Hollywood Beach Hotel and Golf Club, but the plan has never been executed.

In the following image, the layout from Willie Park's 1923 design to the current layout are very similar, except for slight modifications to current holes 1 and 9, which were probably redesigned to accomodate the current hotel built in the early 1960s.
