Real estate developer Alec Courtelis hired Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge to design a 9-hole executive golf course for his Briar Bay development. Construction began in 1974 and Briar Bay Golf Course opened in January 1975.
The Miami-Dade County Parks Department acquired Briar Bay Golf Course in 1979 and it currently has a layout of 9 holes, par 31, 1800 yards.
